we are making some progress on 'Shirley' our 1968 13/2 safari even though it looks like we are going backwoods as we remove yet another piece of borer eaten or rotten frame. we will soon be replacing the windows with polycarbonate and will need new rubber seals as the old ones are brittle and cracked. i can't find anything that looks remotely like the original. can anyone advise please what and from where i can find a replacement. this is the profile of what we have taken off, 23mm or just under an inch. any bright ideas? we have some of the original cupboard door handles but would really like to replace the missing ones with originals, even if they are in less than perfect condition. these are the originals and we need four. hoping someone has some spares from an old demolished van.

I think I can get the rubber seal you need, but I need to check the sample piece I have to be absolutely sure it is the right one. I also think I have some doors with the same handles as yours, will check during the week and get back to you. Brian

thanks Brian, i appreciate that. i only need four handles for the oak cupboards but we need to rebuild the kitchen and i'd like to do it in keeping with the style of the rest of the van. matching handles would look nice, so possibly three or four extra if available cheers franni

any advance on those door handles? i haven't found a suitable replacement and really want to avoid filling and re-drilling the holes in my beautiful cupboards.

My apologies Franni, I didn't note your request on my "things to do when in my stocks" list and it went out of my mind. Will check in the next few days.

Franni - I have found one door with your type of handle, which should mean that I have more of the same deep in the back of my stores. Will continue the hunt for more!

i'm still hopeful you will find four cupboard door handles for me. i've sanded and coated all the doors with clear polyurethane and they look great, thanks to their high quality construction [and original finish, thanks Michael. ] thanks, Franni

those photos didn't land as neatly as i hoped, but at least they did get in the post. the wheel hub originally had green baize and has been replaced with purple felt. looks very swish. we are proud of out little papered corner and the cupboard. even the doors [not shown] hang perfectly straight which they did not before. she does look forlorn without her front. will send a picture when done. regards Franni

advice wanted please. we have disassembled the front of our Safari discovering the stone guard and panel above it behind the outer sheet of aluminium. stone guard is quite dented and has just been covered over. question, is the second [outer] sheet of aluminium just an add on or should it be behind the stone guard? we are having quite a head scratching time putting the front together as i missed taking photos when we pulled the front off. also the previous restoration was a bit 'off' so we have to adjust everything to make it fit. i have beaten out most of the dents having found a wooden mallet at the local Lions-mart. what fun thanks, Franni

I have messaged you three times, have you checked your messages inbox - on 12 January, in reply to your message on March 26 and again on May 6. As i only have one of the handles you want, I offered to send it free of charge but need your address.

thanks, Brian, there are no messages in my inbox other than the first welcome to the forum in august last year. thanks for the offer but as i need four handles i will try to have some made over here. got the roof panels off, but it has rained every day since. so far the tarp has kept her nice and dry. i am currently re-covering the upholstery and making curtains until the weather fines up. it is all a bit daunting at times, but then so exciting when we get it right.we made a silly mistake when reframing the front windows in using laminated marine ply with the cut edge facing to the front.. where the screws go. kicked ourselves when we realised that the ply would very likely split when we put the skin on and we'd never know [until it all fell to bits] so a step back. we can redo that bit. it's a bit tough when we have to fix our own mistakes. i suppose most members must use Facebook as there is not much activity here. franni
