Here is a beginner's guide to hosting an image online, and placing it within a posting in the forum.
If the image is already on a website:
Right click on the image and a drop down menu appears
Click on the bottom line - Properties
A panel will appear giving the properties
First check the size of the image - a width of around 600-800 is good. If it is much wider it will cause problems displaying the text in the message.
If the width is ok, highlight the Address (URL) and copy it using ctrl+C
Go back to your message, place the cursor where you want the image to appear, and click the image icon (fourth from the left on the bottom row.
This will appear [/img], place the cursor between the central brackets and press ctrl+v to paste the address of the image.
Preview your post using the button below to check the image picture is displaying correctly.
Bear in mind that if the image is moved or deleted from its current location it will no longer appear in your message.
If you need to reduce the width go back to the menu and click Save Picture as, and choose a folder on your own hard drive and save the file. You then need to resize the image to 6-800 pixels using for example Photoshop, and follow the instructions below.
To place an image that is currently on your hard drive in your post, firstly you need to place or upload a copy to a photo hosting space on the web.
Photobucket is one example, there are others, such as Imageshack, Picasa and so on. But, using Photobucket, this is what you do. On other sites the precise instructions may vary but the principle is the same.
1. Uploading an image to a hosting site
Go to your chosen photo hosting site photobucket.com/
Before uploading any images, you need to Register with a username and password. You also enter a few basic details about yourself, although you can leave the postcode/zip code field blank, and also read and agree to their terms and conditions.
Once registered, you can now upload images to Photobucket.
Click the Browse button, this allows you to navigate the files on your computer and select an image to upload, or copy over, to Photobucket.
Once you've selected an image, click the Upload button. You'll get a message on the screen to say it was successful (hopefully).
If you scroll down the page a bit, you'll see the image(s) that you've uploaded so far.
Below each image is the 'URL Link', this is what you use when placing a link to the image on this forum. Copy the full URL Link by highlighting it with your mouse, and press Ctrl + C on your keyboard. This takes a copy of the link.
2. Placing an image within a post on this forum
Go to the forum and post as you would normally. To place an image in your post, you use the URL Link that was shown on Photobucket.
While editing your forum post, click the Img button once, place your cursor between the centre brackets and press Ctrl V to paste in the URL Link. This pastes in a link to your image within the content of your posting.
Before submitting your post you can preview it, to make sure the image is showing correctly.
(To copy and paste the URL link, you can also use the right mouse button, which brings up a menu)
Hope this helps.
