Florida Phil - whose real name is Derek, replied to my Welcome Email and has confirmed he is happy for me to pass on his introduction.
Thanks for your welcome, where do I start?
My name is Derek Bradshaw and I own a caravan service and repair company in Warrington, Cheshire. Last week a customer came into my accessory shop to price an awning for his van, we got chatting and it came out that he was a steam enthusiast.
During our conversation I mentioned that I was near to completing a full nut and bolt restoration on a 1938 MG TA and that I would love an old caravan to restore next.
He then mentioned that he had a Safari which he used on his rally's and mentioned that he might consider selling. When I asked him how much, he replied "an awning for my van".
He came back later with some photographs and I shook hands on the deal and ordered his awning for him.
He originally told me it was a 1963 model but changed this to 1968 when he delivered the caravan. I then went surfing on the net for anything to do with Safari caravans and discovered your site.
Upon joining your group I asked for someone to identify and date the caravan from its plate and I was informed that it was actually a 1971 model 11-2 with the serial No 71117.
As stated earlier I own a caravan service and repair company and we specialise in rebuilding caravans particularly those with damp problems and my aim is to carry out a full chassis up renovation of the caravan which has partly been modified to a Gypsy caravan and had a wood burning stove fitted, but I want to restore it to its original condition.
Being the owner of a caravan business I obviously have access to parts suppliers and should any of your members want any advice either on repairs or to availability of spares etc I would be more than willing to assist and would also give a discount on anything purchased. (this is not my reason for joining, but reading some of the messages regarding spares I noticed that some of those items members were looking for, I have in stock or access to) therefore if anybody wants to contact me for advice or spares they can contact me on my business email derek@woolstoncaravans.co.uk
Hoping this is enough information for now, I look forward to chatting some more during the project.
p.s.
I forgot to mention that the awning cost me £97.50 trade, not bad for a 1971 Safari.
Regards
Derek Bradshaw

I second Mike's welcome to the Group, and I am also almost on your doorstep. And it was myself who dated your recent acquisition.
I just might one day make use of your professional services. Private email on its way to you.
Regards,
Oliver
