OK – so the moment you have all been waiting for – the first Safari Meet.

I belong to a modern caravan forum – www.TouringandTenting.com who are arranging a rally from Friday 7th July to Sunday 9th July 2006 and they would be delighted if our Safari Group joined them. We will all be pitched together alongside the T&T entrants.
Right in the middle of England well almost – the site is at –.
Wicksteed Park
Barton Road
Kettering
Northamptonshire
NN15 6NJ
Tel: 08700 621 193
Fax: 01536 518948
see their website here http://www.wicksteedpark.co.uk

Their park has no electric, or showers, but it does have water and waste facilities, and toilets. There may be a shower block by the time of the rally, but this is not guaranteed. They have just started taking caravans and tents, so it's a new thing for them,
They can take 60 units and the usual price of £10 per night is reduced to £7.50 per night if we book through T&T.

I will be going up on the Friday night after work, probably arriving at about 6.00pm and leaving late on Sunday. If you want to stay longer you can at the same rate per night. If you can’t get your Safari there please come along for the Saturday or the Sunday anyway.
For those with children, or those who like to act like children, you get entry into the fun park all the time it is open, the entry into the park is charged at about £5 for parking the car, as you are already there, you don’t have to pay that.
There are wristbands or tickets to buy for the rides, we can buy a sheet of 13 tickets which could get us on up to 15 rides, cost £13.50
Wristbands are also £13.50 each, for some reason adults ones are £10
If you buy the tickets for the rides you can keep them and use them on later visits - even years later - the wrist bands last for a single day I think. The rides are tame rather than frightening.
Wicksteed is a fantastic day out - they have a huge kids play area (free) - you will see the name wicksteed on lots of play equipment all over the uk.
There is a go-karting track (banked to resemble a mini Brooklands - which it was probably based on when they built it), a couple of roller coasters, some water rides, a large fishing and boating lake, train etc but best of all is the amount of space - great for playing with kids & picnics etc.
One thing to be aware of is the food in the Park - dismal burgers and the like, stick to ice creams and BBQ's / picnics.
Please complete the attached booking form and send it to me so I can forward them to Touring and Tenting, and I look forward to meeting lots of you in July.

I am going to contact the organisers at the end of this week to confirm the number of places we require.
So far it is only four Safaris - so come on the rest of you, anyone else interested?

Hi Brian,
Many thanks for the brochure pics, superb. Unfortunately I will not be able to make the Safari Rally in July, as I'm model boating down in Weymouth that weekend, but i will keep an eye open to see what else may'happen'!..within the club. I hope it is a success and that many enthusiastic members turn up, it sounds a good site.
best wishes Anthony W

Hi Brian
just read your post I know we haven't been on for a long time (for various reasons). We are looking into coming to the meet but if we do it wouldn't be in the safari as it is still in pretty bad shape. We would have to come down in our other classic the 75 abi debutante instead if that's ok with you and the rest of the members.

Brian,
Still hoping to come, just for the Friday night and then leave Saturday afternoon, but it absolutely depends on what stage I am at with the exam marking nearer the time. At the present moment I am nowhere near being ahead with it, but hope that by the time we get to into July I may be.
What is your deadline for letting you have a decision (and of course payment)?
Regards,
Oliver
PS. Scottish Meet: hope to resolve fairly soon the question of whether I take the boat to Sligo, and that will help to determine the likely date for an informal Scottish Meet. But, yes, still planning to do something there. Watch this space.

Hi Brian,
Sorry, but we will not be able to get to the Wicksteed Park Meet . I work most weekends anyway , so it was always doubtful , but I've just found out it is out of the question to have that weekend off . A real shame because the next two weekends are free, which is VERY unusual.
We will endeavour to bring Towed Hall, if at all possible, to the next meet.
