Hello Brian,regarding the breaking of caravan,I think that any of the models that come up for spares should be taken,as you never know what is around the corner and like you pointed out the availability of such spares may prompt more people to restore them.What are your plans regarding a used spares base? If you plan to break & store a large amount of spares how do other members feel about a small annual contribution to help with storage or purchase costs? Again this would help with financing such a project but means more time spent by you keeping track of things,in the long run access to such parts benifit all owners and as the club has grown well and is active maybe this is the logical way to proceed? We have a good knowledge base within the club that has helped many members,how do others feel on this matter? Regards Paul

Thanks for your quick reply and support for this project.
I don't think a compulsory subscription would work, but any voluntary donations would be gratefully received!
What I thought I would do was to calculate the acquisition costs, (purchase, petrol for collection, and a bit for my time) add on any costs for disposing of the shell, (anyone know of any caravan banger racers?) and then price up the spares from that Safari to cover those costs.
If I got one delivered for free, then I could reduce prices on bits from other sources.
As previously mentioned, the storage is in a loft over my new garages so I am limited to flat items and small bits, so no chassis!
I would then list all the spares in a new message board with prices and charge actual postage and packing on top, with payment by cheque in advance or cash on collection.
As always any other suggestions welcome - especially which spares you think I should keep.

A reminder that I have much of the interior woodwork of what I was led to believe had been a 17/4, but I did not do the dismantling and the parts were passed to me at third hand. This is available as a resource for any members who may need bits, but from my observations on my two 17/2s there were sometimes dimensional changes in lockers, etc., within the same model, between different years - so one needs to check precise dimensions to see whether a spare will actually fit.
Regarding the immediate question, although I personally am not in the market for spares as early as this I concur with Downton; probably worth extracting the more likely spares (and probably only those which are specialist to Safaris and are difficult to source elsewhere).

My 1966 17ft 4 berth has single glazed wndows and my previous 1965 had the same .
They can be reglazed by any good glazier with saftey glass and are good as new, the frames themselves however seem to br rare as hens teeth.
I for one would be glad to know where i can find replacements.

Alec , that make,s two of us that put our hands in our pocket only to find fluff & Holes!! I am not a million miles from you ,Stoke-on-Trent so that would give us one pretty central.Maybe we should wait to see what other owners feel and then try the donation method,see what is collected and maybe have the spares at both locations? It would be easy via computer for you to keep track of parts between the two,who knows where this could lead regarding keeping our Safari,s alive & well for us to enjoy....Regards Paul
