Hi folks!
Looking forward to becoming the proud owner of a 1980 17/4 hopefully in the next month or so. I say hopefully, because it is being assessed for damage by a specialist next week before I make the 250 mile trip to assess it myself. I do know it has some water ingress along one of the seams below the fwd RH skylights. I just hope this started in recent history and not many years ago!
It was used for family holidays for ten years then has been left uncovered on a concrete driveway for the last 20. It is mostly green with moss etc but is complete in every way.
I'm an aircraft engineer so should be able to undertake most renovation jobs myself, and I have an excellent welder friend in case the A frame needs replacing. Unless the floor or the chassis is completely rotten i'm hoping to be able to take this on. The underside of the 'van was undersealed from new so should be ok but sometimes this can bring problems of it's own.
If this turns out to be a viable project, I may well be after some advice from you good people!
Wish me luck!
Andy, Salisbury

Hi Andy and welcome to the expanding group of Safari owners.
I hope you don't find any hidden horrors and that you are soon getting stuck into a restoration.
Members on here are keen to provide assistance, and all we ask in return are lots of photographs as you do the work as these are of great benefit to other restorers!

Looks like the restoration is a go-er. I now need to get it transported 250 miles home. Anyone know what the shipping dimensions are (in particular overall width and track/axle width)? I'm assuming the track width would be more than 6' therefore too wide for a standard car trailer? Also, I asked the lady who owns it what numbers were written on the tyres (for replacement purposes) and she has said 165 SR15. From another post I was expecting 185 14C? Oh and it's a '79 not an '80.
Thanks
Andy
