I have a two berth safari circa 1979(no wheel arch spats). The unladen clearance between the top of the tyre and the wheel arch is around 2inches which seems to little to me. Does anyone know what it should be and is it adjustable. Any clues greatly appreciated

Richard
On my 14-2 the vertical measurement from the ground to the centre of the wheel arch is 1ft 9.5inch, and my wheel is 24" diameter so as i previously said the wheel is 2 inches above the opening.
I don't think my Safari is especially low and so I would be surprised if the top of your wheel was below the height of the wheel arch.

I woke up in the night and realised we may be talking about different measurements!
Mine is to the top of the wheel arch CUT OUT IN THE SIDE WALL - and I wonder if you are referring to the semi circular "mudguard" that forms part of the chassis?
If you had 2" above the tyre, your Safari would be riding so high that low bridges would become a problem!

Hello again Brian Thanks for your help. Yes I have managed to sow confusion! I am talking about the vertical measurement from top of the tyre, top dead centre to the top of the semi-circular mudguard/body moulding that sits inside and above the level of the wheel arch, which on my caravan is 2inches. Is yours about the same?
Regards
Richard

Richard
The vertical height from ground to the highest point of the inside wheel arch is 26", and my tyres are 24" so my clearance is only 2".
I am certain my tyres have never touched the wheel arch so it seems to be ok.
I have never heard of anyone having any problems "bottoming out" so perhaps you have nothing to worry about.
