Hi guys,
does anybody know what year they started to build the 14/2 with an external side locker?I was told my safari was a '79 when I bought it but I've noticed most of the 14/2 pics in the gallery have the "wetstuff" locker-mine is missing this.Just trying to work out how much it weighs!
Cheers!

Undoubtedly they were fitting it by 1980, as it is shown for all models (including of course the 14-2) in the 1980 Sales Brochure; see the complete brochure in the Pictures section of this site.
And for the larger sizes (at least) they were fitting it by 1978; certainly the 1978 17-2 had it. Does anyone know whether the 1878 14-2 also had it?
But in 1974 it was not being fitted to (at least) the 12-2.
In default of clear evidence to the contrary it would be a reasonable supposition that the company brought it in for all models simultaneously, in which case the broad answer to your wuestion is "somewhere between 1974 and 1978. So despite what you have bene told, it looks as though your caravan is probably pre-1978.
Even if the serial number is missing, you should be able to date it fairly accurately from the Dating Safaris message boards, and particularly you should be able to tell whether it is 1979 or earlier or later, since that is one of the distinctive transitional years. If it is fitted with the old style rear panel, and old style interior cupboard door mouldings and drawer fronts but has wheel spats fitted it is 1979; it not it almost certainly isn't!
Have a look in particular at the two major strings "Interior Changes and "Exterior Changes".
To get a figure for the weight, if the data plate is missing, see the string "Weights and Tyres" on the Technical & Restore Board.
Hope this helps.
Oliver
