I am considering respraying my 12/2. Can any competent car resprayer do it? Is there any advice out there about respraying, or problems with it? Can you still get the correct paint?
Many thanks Mike

Many owners have had their Safaris resprayed and car resprayers can do the job as long as their workshop is tall enough and they can get over the roof!
People have used water based cellulose, or two-pack, and as with all painting the success is all in the preparation.
There have been a couple of people who thought a respray would stop water ingress. This is not the case. A caravan body flexes slightly and this can crack the top coat and still allow water to get through.
The perfect way to do the job would be to remove all the aluminium panel join cover strips, get the body and the trim strips sprayed and then replaced with a good flexible mastic.

Many thanks for your reply, I hoped you'd say something like that. I am not looking at the respray to seal the caravan, we have recently had an expert do a lot of work on the back end, repairing damage from a previous leak and resealing, he was simply brilliant and I would definitely use him again.
The caravan is being refurbished inside by my wife (with professional help) and the outside is my responsibiltiy! Last winter I had my Stag resprayed to a very high standard and I'm going to ask the same guy if he can do the caravan.
The panels are 'Ice White' I think, but should the wheels be cream, or white? We have some brand new hub caps to fit!
Many thanks again. Mike

Shame your expert is in a far corner of the country. We have members all over the UK looking for a reliable, and reasonably priced expert!
I think the wheels were originally cream, but this may just be a dirty white after all these years!

Thanks Brian
My 'expert' has been known to go away for a week to work on a van and combine it with a holiday for his wife and dog! It might be worth making an offer if anyone needs advice, or work!
Regards Mike

Be careful Mike or your "expert" will be pulled away from Cornwall never to return!!! Seriously though, would he be prepared to quote based on photographs of damage?

Hello Mike, glad you could join us, I've had a few caravans resprayed recently in vehicle synthetic paint and the finish is great. Although not as good as 2k but then it's a quarter of the price. Hope your find someone

Retrocars
Thanks for the paint advice. I have already towed it with the Stag and the Stag Reg plate is the one permanentally fixed to it! Most definitely yes!!!
Are you a member of any Triumph Clubs?

Fantastic! I am not really into clubs as they take up a lot of time but I plan on looking into joining the triumph sports six club and the triumph 2000 register at the NEC this weekend great to hear that! Hopefully you can make a few of the safari and Classic caravan get togethers. Where are you located?

I'm in Cornwall and I'm a member of the TSSC - great Club, been with them for over 32 years. If you mention my name on the Clubstand at the NEC, they will definitely know me!
Looking forward to some classic car & caravan touring next year - will look out for you. Where are you located?
