Hi all
Although we have been members of this site for some time now we have not introduced ourselves or the van yet.
We got the van easter weekend 2013 from Chelmsford area and stopped by to see Brian at southend on the way back.
It was all a bit last minute but Brian was very helpful, gave us some history of the van and we got some replacement parts from his stock.
As it was getting late now (Having come up from Cornwall) we decided to spend a night in her. It turns out we spent 2 nights near sevenoaks with no mains hook up, no curtains, no doors on the cupboards, a little bit of gas and no cups, no kettle, plates or dishes. As you will know, a safari of this age does not have double glazing but single glass. Brrrrrrr chilly!!! It was a tad cold with icicles hanging off of the outside handles and snow on the car. However this did not put us off as it was all a good adventure!! (See pics below on how we got her).
I think the van is known and registered with the site but to confirm it is a safari 1974 14-2 serial number 74277. We got a good deal but it needed cosmetic work as the previous owner started to wall paper it with horrid boating Cath Kidston wall paper and painted all door duck egg blue. We wallpapered over the CK and painted a neutral colour, however doors remain as not sure about stripping back. I think it will be worse than left blue. It has the original cooker with unused grill pans and still even has the blue plastic film on the oven handle. The built in gas fire works well and is like new after a service and check.
We have now nearly finished the inside, fitted mains hook up and have curtains fitted. Just got to finish celling of the bathroom. We managed to get a second hand like new awning and this is great.
As I partake in triathlons we use her for weekends away and have stayed on Exmoor, Dartmoor, numerous campsites throughout Cornwall and Devon. We also spent 10 days in her locally between house moves. We have also taken her to Glastonbury festival., we are thinking of heading to france this Autumn.
We were going to sell her to help fund a new house, but enjoy the use and cant bring ourselves to do it, also i dont think we shall find another in this condition and history for the price we paid. We shall store her in Devon again once the season kicks off (to save dragging her in/out of Kernow at weekends). The van currently in Newquay Cornwall. Looking forward to getting to some safari meets with you guys this year.
Regards
Scott and Sonya.
