I got the following by email from Brian and Mairi who have just joined having just purchased (last Wednesday) a 15-4. Any other members got any ideas?
Dear Brian
We have been working all day on our 15/4, it has been a long day. She has a lot of scratches on her, I have read in the hand book that you could get Safari White to touch up any bits, but of course to day you can't phone up Safari to ask for it.
Do you know of any place were you could still get it or a suitable replacement?
It has been so long since she was cleaned outside the some of the roof is yellow, is there any thing we can do about this?
We will post some photos on the site soon.
Kind Regards Brian and Mairi Dickson (Scaniadriver7)

For what it is worth - the paint on the roof of my Safari has "pitted" and when I wash the roof a lots of "white" comes off on the brush or sponge. I have spoken to some caravan experts who advise a total repaint.
This is not as drastic as it sounds, they have suggested that a light sanding with 120 grade wet and dry, gets a good key on the aluminium and then I need to use a small roller with a good exterior white gloss paint.
The Safari roof has the advantage that you can do it in three sections, rather than having to do the whole top in one go. I am a bit concerned about getting a good finish round the roof lights, and may take them all out.
My plan is to put the caravan in a friend's warehouse over the Easter holiday and get the job done in the dry!
As far as matching the Safari white on the sides, I need a solution as well. In the past it looks as if some idiot has used an epoxy glue to fix the handles on the front and where this has run down the front, they have rubbed down the paint! So a bit of localised spraying will be necessary but can anyone get a paint code for the white?
Come on folks - let's have your ideas and suggestions.
Brian

Before finishing my own reply to Scaniadriver's request for help, Gareth emailed me with the following:
Compass/Elddis group Corfu White was the perfect match for my Safari when I did some touching up a few weeks ago. Although there is a chance that it may be slightly different on other peoples caravans depending on how much they have faded.
Gareth.
Gareth - Does the paint have any sort of code on it? We could then get it made up by a paint factor.

Hi Its martin, I would look at "Land Rover" Limestone, it is very similar
and they do some very good brush paint "Tractrol" is one, it is a good tough
finish and can always be touched up again, they also do suitable primers for
aluminium..by the way my 12/2 is ready for road testing, I will soon be
sorting out some pics, although my paintwork is fine, I am going to do it
"limestone" with the Land rover fern green flares along the side in the
summer to match my series 2a Landy I hope this is useful..( West Wilts
Trading Estate keep Tractrol brush and spray paints, you may well find
suppliers on the net !! Martin ( Pegrum )

Hi it's Brian and Mairi
Thank you for all the help, it has given us a lot of ideas. But still on the question of paint how come all the safaris we see pictures of are green and the one we have is a brownish yellow, I think, well you could call it tan! We are going to try and put some photos on the site. The photos were taken the day we got her in Manchester. As you will see on the photo the flashings over the windows, in some points are almost back to the aluminiam. So we are also looking for a match for this colour.
Maybe someone can tell us why some are green and some are brownish yellow?

I am a caravan engineer by trade (amongst other things) and in my experience vans that are 18 months old have faded at different rates to the point where the correct shade of paint looks completely different when applied to two identical vans. So doing it to a 28 year old van is very hit and miss, but saying that the Compass/Elddis group Corfu White was the perfect match for my Safari when I did some touching up a few weeks ago. Although there is a chance that it may be slightly different on other peoples caravans depending on how much they have faded.
I will have a look when I am back at work on Monday, although we just ring Compass/Elddis in Consett (Co Durham) and ask for the colour so any dealer for that make should be able to supply it, but as I said before it may not match everyones white exactly.
The Compass Group Corfu white is manufactered by Holts, the tin does have 'FLUK 2763 98MAS 9017' written on it, although whether this is of any relevence I do not know.
Gareth.

Having seen your pictures I see what you mean about the colour of the side flash and "window tops".
I have seen a couple of other colours apart from the standard dark green/brown, but I had assumed they were repaints, possibly to match tow cars. Perhaps yours was towed by a British Leyland car in the mid seventies!

You may be right about the side flashes being goldie colour like British Leyland. I seem to remember Marina Maxi & Princesses of a colour near to this.It appears to be the original paint as there is no other colour underneath.
