Hi, my name is Chris, me and my partner have decided to get a caravan next year. We were trying to decide what to go for then I remembered that my parents have a very old 50s/60s sterling lantern top/safari caravan. my dad rescued it years ago from being crushed, started renovating it but illness stopped him and it has sat rotting again on their drive. I would really love to get it back on the road and save it. I haven't seen inside for a while so not sure yet what condition its in. I need someone who could help us get it back in a usable condition we are on a tight budget but we can do the inside and my dad can plumb in all the appliances but need help to get the shell back up together. anyone know anyone who can help in the Dorset area. look forward to any info

Hello Chris, welcome to the group! would be very interesting to see photographs of your caravan! Also if you could supply the model and serial number for the Safari Register, that would be fantastic.
I have carried out many restorations on these old caravans and enjoyed every one, unfortunately i am unable to help due to being so far but if you ever need any virtual help/advice and parts I am more then kean to help.
Chris.

Chris J - can you confirm if you have a Sterling or a Safari caravan. The lantern roof was common to both makes and also to several others. If a Sterling, you can still learn a lot of basic restoration techniques from the forum, but be careful that the advice we give will not be specific to a Sterling.

That's great thanks, I will double check the make and serial number etc. I will also get some pics on here as soon as I can get down to Weymouth to see it. any help would be greatly received as it would be lovely to see it back on the road again.
