A lot of you may already know that I have recently purchased a 1979 Safari 17.2...
It's in very original condition... Bathroom, kitchen and living area all original with original furnishings and curtains in good condition. The main problem is that there is damp in the front, complete front panel will need new wood, new insulation and new wall boards. I will be replacing this over the next few weeks. The bathroom will also need to be re- boarded but there is no damp there.
Back on to the original title:
I am not sure whether I prefer the kitchen being shut off and so far away from the seating area, not very sociable in my eyes!
What do you all prefer... A 17.2 or 14.2??

I am not sure whether I prefer the kitchen being shut off and so far away from the seating area, not very sociable in my eyes! Come on Chris - it is only 3 feet further away!! But on a 17/2 I do think the layout is a bit crazy. What is the use of the side board and a six foot wardrobe? Unless you want to take a change of clothes for every day you are away! If it was built today the whole rear would be a fixed double bed, then a side kitchen and the u-shaped front sofa could then remain undisturbed at night. Having said that I do prefer the extra 2 feet of cupboard space in a 14-2 over a 12-2. So for me its a 14-2 every day.

Very true, when we were away abroad for 3 weeks last year we didn't have enough wardrobe space but I think the double wardrobe will be more then enough... Like you say... What is the point in the dresser and drawers? I wonder if it would be a chrome to put a dinette there that would convert to a single or a double.... I am preferring the 14.2 at the moment

Scrap that no room for a dinette as the bathroom takes up an additional 16inchrs.

Hi, I took out the sideboard on my 17/2. I made a small bench seat above the water heater box out of a 1960's coffee table on one side, cut the original dining table in half/3/4, (had to make a supporting brace below the window, end to end for strength) andused a free standing ercol period chair on the other side. I painted the wheel arch in hammerite silver and it looks and works well. Still loads of storage for 2 people but leaves the sofa/bed free. Thinking of removing the RH wardrobe and fitting a small woodburner there???
