Hello! I've had my Safari (6620) since April '11 and I live in Rotorua NZ. She has been sitting in a campsite as a rental for years and is worse for wear. So far she has had her towbar rebuilt, underneath rustproofed, with new shocks and her braking system has been cleaned up and repaired. All panels and windows have been taken out and she has had her rotten frame rebuilt where necessary, insulation inserted and some new panels to replace the battered lower sections. Now I am choosing colours for her new paint job. So I wonder what she was originally painted. There are quite a few layers! Was pale blue most likely? Or was that an undercoat? The interior looks to be an oak style veneer; would that be right? I am getting black letters to put a 'Safari' sticker on the front roof as we can see there used to be a name there. Mostly i'd like help sourcing a badge or two as she has none. If there is anyone who could help I'd be grateful. Lastly, I'm not too good with this MSN business, but I hope to see you all on Facebook! Have a great day, Michelle

Hi Safari caravans never had a Safari sticker on the roof or any part of the body work it should have a badge on the front just under the front window in the centre and one at the back 6620 ther is a number missing i 66 would be the year it was built 1966 then there should be three numbers these are the production number the colour i think was pale beige with a flash colour of pale blue the oak furniture is correct i polished the furniture when it was built i was a spray polisher at Safari for 23 years hope this helps you

Hi Michelle and welcome to the group.
Have you made contact with Brent on the FB group who is also in NZ. this makes three safaris "down under". I have photos of one in Australia.
Michael suggest your serial number is missing a number, but all the 1966 serial numbers on my database are only four digits, I think the extra zero was only put in the following year.
From your pictures on fb, it seems you are doing quite a thorough restoration. Any more pictures you can post will be a great source of reference material for others attempting to restore their Safaris.
I agree with Michael that no Safari ever had black letters on the roof, save you money and revert it to standard.
I am not sure if the option was available as early as 1966, but by 1970 you could order the side flash on your Safari in whatever colour you wanted - often to match your tow car.
The wide band between the windows is often seen in pale blue, light grey, or even pale green. if you have a look through the photoalbums for the year you will see several options. There are also a lot of interior shots on there as well.
As Michael says, yours should have the round badge at the base of the vertical divide between your front windows. These are quite often seen on ebay uk for a few pounds.
Please keep in touch and let us see more pictures.

Hi Thanks for your prompt replies. I'll post a photo on FB (when I'm on time) so you can see the detail of the letters painted onto the front roof. I photograph everything! I'm not so good at loading pics here sorry I shall try to join ebay and get some badges, thanks.
