Hi Darren and Andrea - welcome to the group. Nice to have another Essex member (I am in Leigh-on-Sea) Can you please let me have the serial number of your Safari. As to your restoration question - the lights are easy - any competent local auto-electrician should be able to replace all the lights and wiring right through to the tow bar socket. Costs - probably £50 for new light units and perhaps four to six hours labour. As to repairing the damp. that is a totally different question. I shouldn't say this as I want as many Safaris as possible to survive - but my personal opinion is that to have it done by a professional is not an economic proposition. There is no way that anyone can quote for the job until they have dismantled the damp areas to see what needs replacing. I have heard of one repairer who wanted £700 upfront just to inspect and then give a price for rectification!! There is a company restoring classic caravans of all makes, and who was derided because they were asking £5-6000 for the finished caravan, but to do a total restoration at commerical labour rates, it is not an unreasonable price. The parts required are not expensive. When I rebuilt the front of my Safari, I spent just £50 at a caravan repairer I found in Rawreth, Essex. This was for tubes of Sikaflex, internal wall boards, external panels bent to the curve of the front, and some flat ally sheets. In addition, 1000 stainless screws, (£8-10) and several pieces of mahogany from a Timber Yard which is owned by my neighbour so I got them for “mates rates”. A total of less than £90. Six days solid work and mine was done. Photos are here: rides.webshots.com/album/550745591apQZvX?vhost=ridesThe only repairer I know in this area is AK Leisure at Rawreth Near Wickford, 01268 562211, but there may be other small independent repairers nearer to you. I would steer clear of the big caravan retailers where the overheads are hgher. What are the experiences of other members?

Always delighted to talk Safaris so would be pleased to come up. I don't require petrol money, just a cup of coffee will do. Email me on motordata@aol.com and we can arrange something. Can't really comment on the price you paid until I see the Safari
