Hello again,
Our damp repair is underway (and it's a much bigger job than we thought - but we're hanging in there!)
My question today is about the hard white plastic that goes round the window frame (round the edge of the hole in the wall that the window fits into - does that make sense?) Anyway, this hard white plastic has cracked and we'd like to replace it during the course of our repairs.
I've looke round the caravan shops we've been to but I can only see the soft rubber stuff - can I use this instead? We adore our 'van and we can't wait to use her so this is a repair to bring her back into regular use; I'm aware we're not doing a historically accurate repair job (sorry!) but we're not bodging it either!
One other question about our windows. The little lantern window above our kitchen cupboard is in a right state. It's taped up for now (while we work on the front of the van) but it's next on our list! The frame at the bottom has completely split in half, just under the latch. That wall is really damp/rotten because of this broken window frame. I know windows are like hens teeth so I want to know if there's anywhere I can source a substitute or can anyone suggest a way to repair the plastic.
Hopefully I'm making sense, no doubt I'll be back harassing you all as we go on!
Thanks, Kelly

Kelly
I have a roll of the white plastic trim - it fits a 35mm thick wall. It is £1 per metre plus £9 DHL delivery.
I also have a couple of the vent windows, but from memory I think they are flat glass, not the plastic type. Send me the measurements of yours and I'll check if mine would be ok for you. I would be looking for £10 and it could be included in the same parcel.

Hi Brian, I'll send Jon out there tonight with his tape measure and let you know how much of the tape stuff we need. I'll get the measurements of our broken window too.
Thanks
Kelly

Hello again Brian - just a quick note, Jon justback from work but it's POURING down here and I can't persuade him to go to the bottom of the garden to measure up (wimp!) Anyway, I'll leave a message as soon as I can with the info you need.
Sorry to be a pain, Kelly

Hi Brian I totally forgotten I'd asked you about the window trim - I wasn't ignoring you!
As it turns out, once we'd got the trim off the window (I think the proper term for it is 'capping' maybe?) it wasn't in as bad condition as we thought. I spent a couple of ours the other evening on it - prising out all the old staples and then cleaning it and it came up a treat! So, ever the skinflint, we fitted it back yesterday. I know it makes me a tightwad but I'm going to say I did it for reasons of historical accuracy if anyone ever asks!
Anyway, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, all the best
Kelly
