From: DavidABona1944 (Original Message) Sent: 26/06/2005 18:00 I recently lost a Wheel Spat for my 1980 - 14/2 Safari. So today I did the following by way of an interim measure , until I can obtain another plastic one :- (1) I obtained a suitably large enough piece of 1/8 inch aluminium sheet ( the type they line vans and trailers with - smooth on one side and with a 1/2 inch square box pattern on the other ) ; (2) I made two felt tip outlines on the sheet from my remaining original Spat : (3) I then cut around the outlines with a jig saw : (4) I then cleaned up the patterned aluminium surface with wire wool and applied car polish to it ( but you could of course spray paint it with a colour ) : (5) I then drilled the appropriate holes ( where the old screw holes were in the body ) and slotted both Spats into position within the existing aluminium track and fixed them with alluminium bolts, washers and wing nuts. It took me 1 and a 1/2 hours and if you had not seen a Safari before you would not realise the Spats had been changed, in that I now have 2 fairly strong patterned aluminium Spats which blend with the existing patterned aluminium front panel and small panel under the door . An interim solution which you may already have done ! If not, you may wish to try it as your caravan will obviously look better without a missing Spat or Spats !!! David Bona
