Hello everyone, How lovely to stumble across this site, the information and photo's are amazing! I am after a bit of advice on my beautiful Safari, I think it's a 13/4 and I have restored it to the best I can. It is a 1981 model, classic 4 berth, with bunks at the back. I bought it last year and haven't spent much time in it yet as it needed a lot of work doing to it. Does anybody know what size of awning I would need for it? Thank you so much Abby

To measure for a awning take a length of string and thread it through the awning channel so it touch the ground at the front and let it touch the ground at the back and then measure it that will be the size of the awning you want

Hi, Yes I guess I was just being lazy as the caravan isn't parked at my house it's in storage at a friends. I was just wondering if anyone had one, and any advice on a good one that's suitable for a Safari. As much as I don't want one as it will spoil the view, with 2 children I feel it's something I may need. Thanks though, Abby

Hi Abby and welcome to the group.
In "Technical and Restore" there is a thread on awnings together with sizes for all types of Safari.
As to which make, I don't think there is much to choose between them so long as you are not getting a very cheap one.
I have three secondhand awnings in my loft, a 12', 14' and 17' so I am afraid I can't help at this time.
I'll make my usual plea to all new members - can you please post your serial number and of course we all apppreciate loads of photos of your Safari!!

Hi Brian, 750!! Thank you so much I will look into one. As for the serial number, where will I find it? I'm looking forward to getting out in 'Betsy' as soon as possible. I have had to have her re upholstered and had new curtains and flooring fitted as it was a bit worse for wear! All fittings are original, however I am after a new gas lamp shade as it was missing on purchase? I will get some photo's up soon , thank you once again, and what a pleasure to find this!!

Abby
The serial number is on a sticker, on the outside just in front of the side door.
Are you sure yours is a 1981, if it is and it has gas lamps, the lamps must have been specially ordered by the first owner, as I have never seen gas lamps in a Safari made after 1974.

Hello,
According to the handbook it is a 1980, the serial number is 80151. I haven't checked the van itself yet as is stored away, but it is written on the manual. I think this means it was manufactured in 1979? It definitely has a gas lamp which is, in working order other than needing a replacement shade which I've no idea how I'm going to replace, any suggestions? It has tinted double glazing which throws me a little considering the age built? Thanks
Abby

Does seem strange any caravan having Gas Lamps and plastic windows, Gas lamps were changed for 12V in the mid seventies thoughout from my experience. They are good though so I can understand a die hard caravanner from the era wanting one. The sound is one from my childhood in a Thomson Glenelg on the east Yorkshire coast. They are good at warming the van up too

Hi,
I'm having real problems getting an awning to fit? The rail measures 750 but the problem is the height! I've measured to just below the skylights (the raised roof) and it measures 213cm, however most awnings are 230 cm in height. Does anyone own one or be able to recommend one that fits?
Much appreciated
