Hi All! We're new to the site, but not to safaris. We've had a total of 3 between us for over 15 years now. We've just returned from Exmoor having had a tyre blow out on the m4! The recovery man told us about the new trailer MOT coming in soon and we wonder how this will affect classic caravans? On that note does anyone know of a caravan service mechanic near surrey? Thanks, Bridget

Hi Bridget and Ian welcome to the forum.
Can you let me know the serial numbers of any of your Safaris, and the fate of your previous Safaris.
Rumours about the MOT for caravans and trailers come and go over many years, but I can't find anything current to suggest that they are imminent. I am surprised that our money grabbing government haven't introduced them, as I am sure the caravan industry would love the extra revenue.
With regard to getting your Safari serviced I can't help with anyone in your area but I have found a one man caravan repairer in Essex who understands the older technology used on Safaris, and is happy to work on older caravans so long as I source the parts that might be required. I found him in our local Yellow Pages.
I would not recommend a new caravan supplier as their technicians are only trained on new caravans and I have heard stories of them coming up with a list of imaginary faults in the hope that the Safari owner will buy a new caravan!
I will start a new thread and ask other members to provide details of trusted repairers in their local area.

Thanks to Towedhall and others for suggestions of sympathetic service centres. However, while removing the wheels to renew the tyres, a wheel nut has sheared (!) so we are going to try out a local mobile servicing guy seeing as we can't tow it anywhere at the moment. Expect it is a job we could do ourselves but previous experience of a series landrover has put me right off anything with rusty nuts!
