Looks like I'm going to be vanless unless I spot something soon. I want something that looks old but acts new (i.e. double glazing, room-sealed heater etc); max. size 12'6", so Safari 12/2 would be ideal. Would also consider Castleton Rovana, Carlight Casalette, Royale, maybe a Stirling. Anything considered but the better the better!

Well, that was a disaster. 12/2 on eBay, "a little beauty". "One plastic strip round one window needs replacing and that is it". I didn't spot it in time to view before bidding but the photos looked lovely and the guy had 100% feedback, so I bid and won @ £675. Went to collect the following day. A little beauty? It was a heap! Dirty interior and plentiful dents in aluminium exterior. Wallpaper coming off in handfuls, hole in the fibreglass rear panel due to some reversing incident; hot water heater removed (despite specific mention that it was there and working); windows crazed and several catches missing; seat bases detached from rest of seat; worktop burnt; etc etc. OK, all fixable, but not in keeping with my idea of "a little beauty". The one I had last year (that I sold when I bought the Castleton Roadsman) was a much better van at one-third the price. To the guy's credit, he readily accepted my criticism and cancelled the transaction. The one and only time I have reneged on a bid. If he had pointed out that you bid to buy, not to come and inspect, I would have had little defence, but as specifically mentioned services were not in fact present I had an ace to play. Better luck next time!

Alec
Lucky you found an understanding seller to avoid the aggravation of a dispute, but I do think you would not have had to pay for an item that had been so mis-described.
This is not the first time that Safaris have been hyped up on Ebay and turned out to be a load of rubbish, and I don't suppose it will be the last.
