Interior Wood Mouldings and Drawer Fronts
Up to 1978: See Nimueandme photo's\P1010144.jpg and P1010141 - superb photos clearly showing the simple thin flat D-section mouldings. See also Primrose\Inside (2 photos) clearly showing the D-section mouldings and also the drawer fronts with no mouldings but radiussed edges. Drawer body construction is wood; no plastic panels used. See also Sad Sale Scotland\mag_003 .
1979: See Our Pride & Joy\P7240122.JPG Note that the mouldings are still moderately narrow, but no longer the simple D-shape; each moulding clearly now has a double ridge with a hollow between. However the kitchen drawer front is interesting; my 17/2s have a slightly different kitchen, but this type of drawer front corresponds to the earlier sideboard drawer fronts on my 1978 17/2, whereas the door mouldings correspond to the later type found on my 1980 'van. This seems to be a case of detail design changes being brought in piecemeal, as existing stocks were used up ...
1980: Mouldings the same as 1979; drawer fronts now carry the same or similar mouldings round the edges instread of the edges being radiussed. Drawer body construction is plastic rather than wood. See Craig's Caravan\Kitcheninside and also Seating1. These pictures seem to have got into the wrong folder, because they seem to relate to the second caravan in this folder, "Caravanoutside1", which is a different caravan from "Project13" which Craig sent in. I seem to remember the owner of this caravan posting a message and pictures a few months ago, but can't now quickly identify who it was; perhaps he could identify them so that they can be moved to the correct folder.
1981/2: No photos yet - can anyone offer some? Mouldings continued the trend towards greater size and complexity and visual dominance; now larger in all dimensions that in 1979/80, and a more complex shape.
Window pelmets:
1974-78 (at least): See Before & After\P4260004.JPG. Note the wooden pelmet, and the gold trim along the lower edge. See also Primrose\Inside; not clear from this whether there is any sort of trim along the bottom edge of the pelmets, but whether this is present is not necessarily a reliable dating indicator - this trim can easily come adrift over the years, and either then simply get lost or even be deliberately removed by an owner because it is forever coming adrift.
1980-1982: (No photos, yet; some coming, from my 'van). Fabric rather than wood pelmets, matching the curtains, except for the kitchen windows (rear and side) which remained wood, with a wooden trim along bottom edge.
Hope these pointers are helpful in dating other 'vans. Perhaps we might compile copies of these and other appropriate photos, with brief notes, into a new "Dating" folder ...
