Hi Folks, I have a 1965 Safari that has to go (late father’s). I was wondering if any kind board members could give me an idea of its value, or indeed if anyone is interested in buying it. It was in static use up to about 5yrs back and seemed in fair, dry condition. Having a recent quick look I found damp in a window corner. May be more problems, but anybody is welcome to have a good look if they are in the Ponteland area NW of Newcastle upon Tyne and interested. More details and recent photos here: sites.google.com/site/clear1garage/home/vintage-caravan....Cheers all.

Tony An important question which will have a big effect on the value. What is the condition of the chassis, wheels, tyres, brakes, and tow hitch? If it has stood in one place for the last five years and a period before that as well, it is likely it will not be towable and will need trailering away which is an expensive process. A mobile Safari of the same period as yours one that appeared to be in slightly worse condition than yours recently sold for £820 on ebay which was far in excess of my estimated value, but it seems the early ones are more sought after.

Thanks for the info Brian.
The van has stood for many years and it would probably be unwise to attempt towing it. It’s not worth very much then I can assume. At least I now know, as a chap who has approached me twice about it made me wonder if he knew something I did not!
Thanks again. ...If any board member wants to view or make an offer they are very welcome.

I would take a few more pictures of the Safari and put them with an honest description on ebay with a start price of a few hundred and see what happens. Mention the forum in your advert as this might encourage a restorer if they know there are enthusiasts for the brand.
This is not a good time of the year to sell as the touring season is finishing and new owners don't want to add the winter storage costs to their purchase.

Hi folks
HELP!!
It seems that nobody really knows how much Safaris are worth! I was hoping that this site would be the answer, but reading through I am at a loss, as many other board members seem to be. I think a rough general price guide on the site for the various models, year and general condition would be really handy if anyone is better informed and prepared to stick their necks out a bit, would probably help owners and enthusiasts greatly. I have been offered £350 locally for the van, but still have no idea if this is a reasonable price! It is in very original condition, with gas lighting etc. Seems pretty sound though I doubt it will tow without some work as it has stood for so long. As I am an executor disposing of the van, I have a duty to get the right price, but it’s a bit of a ‘how long is a piece of string’ situation and a difficult beneficiary will surely make me pay if I get it wrong!
Can anybody recommend that the £350 is a reasonable price?

As I said last year to ascertain a true value you need to at least try a sale on ebay. A few more pictures will help to attract more bids.
As to the forum creating a price guide - do you realise what a can of worms this would be? In the last 12-18 months Safaris of the same year as yours have sold for between £80 and £3500. If I said that a 1965 Safari was worth a particular sum, then anyone who was only offered hundreds less or those who sold for hundreds more, would say I don't know what I am talking about.
If you do have a difficult beneficiary, ask them to sell any assets that you think they might criticise you for. They will soon shut up!!
Bear in mind that the transport costs of a caravan that cannot be towed, will reduce your selling price by at least £200, so your current offer has a real value of £550.

Thanks Brian
But it seems like so many owners or indeed potential purchasers are looking for value guidance and who better than you! Obviously just a rough guide, or even a list of attained prices that sellers could contribute to going forward. You could be the ‘Glass’s’ guide to the Safari caravan!
Anyway, I guess (still guessing!) the van I am selling is not rare or sought after, so I will probably just sell locally.
Thanks again.
