It is very good of Gary (Henry) to share his costings with us, it goes to prove that there is little or no margin in restoring classic caravans until the prices start climbing even higher than they are at the moment.
If Gary gets the £4000, after deducting his costs he has £2700 to cover not just his labour but also his workshop costs.
I suspect that his workshop costs are at least £7 per hour - £280 per week for rent, rates, heat and light, insurance, consumables, equipment depreciation and replacement. This is £1750 for this project, leaving £950 for labour - Yes less than £4.00 per hour!!!
So we will have to rely on enthusiasts restoring them for the love of the Safari and not for the profit motive for several years to come.

Today I started cleaning on the inside it was freezing so decided to try out the little wood stove I must say im well well impressed this thing is a work of art its full stainless tig welded it has 2 valves one on the chimney and one on the door so you can controll the temprature by controlling how much air flows in and out and you can turn it off by starving it of air altogether Tomorrow I will polish it up and let you know how it goes I think im gonna make some changes to the front bed boxes too

At I was going to use the plywood counter top to put the sink and cooker in to untill I took it off to cut the holes and realized it weighed about 25kg as it was 30mm thick so then set about making a lightweight frame for everything to attach to I will then redskin this in 3mm ply wood im planning a splash back of aluminium sheet up to the overhead cupboards Ive not built yet I had a real old fridge That only runs on gas That I fitted first but decided that it would need far too much work to get it looking good and working well so this morning I went an baught a new 3 way fridge but there was a catch to this I had to raise up the counter top by 40mm to accommodate it this meant taking apart the framework I built yesterday and starting again

I know these lights are not original I spent many hours looking through the forum photo album but I like the way they look if you don't like it that's your opinion

I hope you get a sale if not I'm sure you will enjoy it

Gary - don't thank us for watching, we all thank you for the fantastic photographic record you have created of a major restoration, and hope you will continue to do the same on any more Safaris you are working on.
Of course, I know you will tell the new owners about the forum!
