we have uncovered our safari 1979 12/2 has been under wraps for 7years,sadly the rain has got in therefore needs lots!! of attention. To front frame work & windows this will require removal of trims & gutters. We would like to know please what is the best possible flexible sealant to use on the external panels & trim,as the previous product has cracked & seperated. Also the rubber seals around the windows are in reasonable condition but ideally need replacements, does anyone know if there should be a recessed rubber seal let-into the screw fixing rebate at the top of window itself, can anyone help please.Having exposed the framework internally in the front corners I was surprised to find that the top sheet of alluminum on the outside actually overlapes the bottom sheet on the inside which appears to me to be back to front, has anyone else come accross this please. kind regards Bulldogrog

Hi Bulldog and welcome to the group. Nice to have such a near neighbour in the group - I am in Eastwood just the other side of Rayleigh.
Was your Safari stored in a yard in Hullbridge at some time? I have a photo of one probably from Ebay.
Perhaps we could meet up sometime, I have done the full front repair to mine and my photos are in my Webshots albums.
Every Caravan repairer recommends SIKAFLEX for re-sealing. It is meant to remain flexible for 5 years. As you have experienced the sealant only lets the water through when it goes hard and cracks.
Which front windows are you referring to? The big one across the front does have a plastic insert that goes all the way round (I have it in my stock), but you refer to the rebate "at the top".
Perhaps you could post a photo.
When I took mine apart the uppermost panel always overlapped on the outside of a lower one. Is it possible yours has had a local repair?
